The resting brain: neurometabolite signaling and fluctuations in brain networks (RESTMET)
Our project investigates how fluctuations in local neurometabolites relate to resting-state brain networks. Using a newly developed high-field (7T) MRI protocol, we can simultaneously measure dynamic changes in neurometabolites (glutamate and GABA) and functional connectivity across multiple brain regions. Initial studies focus on the left and right motor cortices, examining how metabolic fluctuations correlate with functional activity at rest and during controlled motor tasks. This research aims to uncover the metabolic underpinnings of brain networks, providing new insights into how energy supports intrinsic brain function.
